Video Game Favorites
This is a list of my personal favorite video games in order. See my favorite video game sites here.
The biggest success for the NES. The best platformer ever created. I still play it once a week.
Amazing detail, sound, colors, and gameplay. The best replay-ability of all the Mario titles.
The best rated game of all time. Was de-throned for only a few days.
An overnight best-seller. Was the best rated game for only a few days.
The Legend of the Holy Sword 2. The others didn't make it to the US but this game melded the RPG with the third-person adventure game. Different endings, amazing visuals, and incredible music make this an RPG favorite.
Wendell Hicken's classic. What can I say? It is the Mother of All Games.
Turn-based battle and a wonderful storyline. This started a whole genre (including the whole Final Fantasy franchise).
Not the best racing game but the first to take advantage of a demolition-derby style "stunt" mode. And with codes; screw-aroundable physics.
I had never sat on the toilet so long. Another example of a game made perfect by it's platform.
This game made the N64's controller and vice versa. Still a favorite to play.
Mario's first huge success. As influential as Pitfall on a better system.
Two steps up from it's little brother, Melee. Same excellent gameplay, smooth online play, and a seriously awesome single player mode.
HAL Laboratories' most successful game.
Before Mario had a name, he was simply called Jumpman. He was to save "Pauline" from a giant ape. The only way to play this is in the arcade.
The game that started it all. The sound track still gets me excited.
Also known as Mother 2, Earthbound was the only of the Mother series to reach the US officially. This game had the best storyline ever when it was released.
Similar to Wolfenstein 3D (the innovation, not the game), this brought side scrolling adventure games to the world.
Come get some.
A cult-classic and mario's only RPG (if you don't want to count the Paper Mario series). Squaresoft joined Nintendo to develop a wonderful "3D" adventure.
Where would we be without this?
Characters and legends are born. Perfected turn-based battle and complex algorithms.
Though not officially 3D, this paved the way for the FPS genre and gave the satisfaction of killing Hitler.
The long-awaited return of the Mario Brothers on a side-scroller. Excellent play, music, sound, and graphics.
I finally get up off the couch and, who knew, I liked it. Wii Bowling is my personal favorite.
I am still clinging to the hope that is Duke Nukem Forever. Until then, this is where it's at.
